  • I am a believer in having a weekly “cheat meal.” It helps me stay sane. I realize this doesn’t work for everyone as it can be a slippery slope. But it works for me.

    One of my mantras is that you should only cheat with your favorite version of that food. If your favorite pizza is Pasquales, don’t settle for Pizza Hut (and certainly don’t settle for frozen). The calories aren’t going to be that different. And it’s your cheat meal, so you shouldn’t be too worried about your calories anyway. You should get the version you like most so that it doesn’t leave you wanting more. At the end of the meal, you don’t want to be thinking, “That was good, but it was no Pasquales.”

    The point of a cheat meal is to give yourself a little reward and to be satisfied. Settling on a lesser version of a cheat food is neither a reward nor satisfying.
