  • Why We Get Fat

Why We Get Fat is an invaluable key in our understanding of an international epidemic and a guide to what each of us can do about it. A follow up to his New York Times best seller, Good Calories, Bad Calories, Taubes reveals the bad nutritional science of the last century, none more damaging or misguided than the “calories-in, calories-out” model of why we get fat, and the good science that has been ignored, especially regarding insulin’s regulation of our fat tissue.

Love peanut butter but trying to watch the fat or calories? Is it really possible to get the flavor of peanuts with only 15% of the fat? Sounds too good to be true ... or is it?

Fitness Tip

  • The ratios of your “macros” (carbs, protein, and fat) will affect the results you get from your exercise. The days of “a calorie is a calorie” are over.

For instance, if you’re trying to shed fat, then you want to limit your carbohydrates (your bodies first source of energy) so that your body will use fat as fuel. But if you’re trying to build muscle, you’ll need to have the energy to strength train (and carbs help with that) and adequate protein which will serve as the building blocks for your muscle growth. So while your calories should change according to your goals, so should your macros, as they all work in tandem.

Thick bars spread the weight over a larger area of the hand. Trainers credit this with making training safer and less likely to cause injury. They also make the forearms extensors and flexors work more evenly which can help avoids imbalances, weaknesses and injury.

Plus, thicker handles stimulate much more muscle activation in the hands and arms. More muscle activation means much bigger muscle and strength gains.

  • Vitamix Review: Our Favorite Appliance

Vitamix. Is it everything they say it is? I'm here to tell you, it's more. This multi-purpose, powerhouse of a machine will not only help get you healthier, you'll be looking for excuses to use it. It's without its flaws, but we wouldn't trade it for 100 pounds of organic kale.
