Comments Policy

We want Home Fitness Gurus to be very conversational. That said, conversations can get ugly unless we set some ground rules to help foster open, civil discourse.

Here is Home Fitness Gurus comment policy:

By posting on Home Fitness Gurus, you agree to the following:

  • You may comment without registering, but you are currently required to input your name, email, and if applicable, your website.
  • You may post follow-up questions. If you have a question, chances are you are not alone. Others are likely thinking similarly. Therefore, we would rather receive your comments on Home Fitness Gurus than via e-mail.
  • You may disagree with us. We welcome debate. However, we ask that if you disagree with us— or anyone else, for that matter— do so in a way that is respectful.
  • We reserve the right to delete your comments. This is our platform to help as many people as we can. We don’t have an obligation to publish your comments. The First Amendment gives you the right to express your opinions on your blog, not ours. Specifically, we will delete your comments if you post something that is, in our opinion, (a) rude; (b) off-topic; (c) libelous, defamatory, abusive, harassing, threatening, profane, pornographic, offensive, false, misleading, or which otherwise violates or encourages others to violate our sense of decorum and civility or any law, including intellectual property laws; or (d) “spam,” i.e., an attempt to advertise, solicit, or otherwise promote goods and services. You may, however, post a link to your site or your most recent blog post.
  • You retain ownership of your comments. We do not own them and we expressly disclaim any and all liability that may result from them. By commenting on this site, you agree that you retain all ownership rights in what you post here and that you will relieve us from any and all liability that may result from those postings.
  • You grant us a license to post your comments. This license is worldwide, irrevocable, nonexclusive, and royalty free. You grant us the right to store, use, transmit, display, publish, reproduce, and distribute your comments in any format, including but not limited to a blog, in a book, a video, or presentation.

Our goal, in addition to providing the most helpful fitness site on the planet, is to host interesting conversations with caring, honest, and respectful people. We believe this simple comments policy will help with that.

Thanks for understanding!

Fitness Tip

  • We’ve all been there: hungry, in a hurry, and maybe feeling a tad bit lazy. So we grab box of ________, reach in and grab a handful… then maybe a second… and a third. This creates several problems:

    1) When you are eating directly out of some kind of container, the chances are pretty high that you’re not paying any attention to your serving size. Based on serving sizes of factory foods (i.e., processed foods that come in such containers), my guess is you had 4-6 servings of said ________.

    2) Secondly, you’re reinforcing a habit of being unintentional with your food, which will push you in the opposite direction of your fitness goals.

    3) Seeing the amount of food you are planning to eat BEFORE you eat it makes a psychological impact on the total amount you are going to eat. Don’t believe me? The next time you go to a buffet, go ahead and get all three plates of food you were planning on eating and sit them down and look at them before you start eating. My guess is you won’t want to eat that much when you see that it’s really way too much. But eating straight out of a package only lets you see the next bite.

So get in the habit of portioning your food out of the container and paying attention to the serving size. No more grabbing a spoon and a pint of ice cream or sitting down to watch the game with an open bag of chips. Even if you plan on eating the entire bag, get in the habit of dumping them out first. Over time you’ll learn to slow down, be intentional, and actually enjoy the flavor of the food rather than the sheer quantity of it.

Testimonials

  • I was in a rough spot with my nutrition and my training was suffering. I reached out to Matthew for some advice hoping he would guide in the right direction. He told me about an accountability group he would facilitate. I accepted the invitation and never looked back. The nutrition plan was very good (tasteful) and being accountable to fitness was great… The people I took this journey with were fantastic and so encouraging. It was exactly what I needed at the time. Thank you Matthew for the experience and believing in me…

Vitamix. Is it everything they say it is? I'm here to tell you, it's more. This multi-purpose, powerhouse of a machine will not only help get you healthier, you'll be looking for excuses to use it. It's without its flaws, but we wouldn't trade it for 100 pounds of organic kale.
