  • Why We Get Fat

Why We Get Fat is an invaluable key in our understanding of an international epidemic and a guide to what each of us can do about it. A follow up to his New York Times best seller, Good Calories, Bad Calories, Taubes reveals the bad nutritional science of the last century, none more damaging or misguided than the “calories-in, calories-out” model of why we get fat, and the good science that has been ignored, especially regarding insulin’s regulation of our fat tissue.

Love peanut butter but trying to watch the fat or calories? Is it really possible to get the flavor of peanuts with only 15% of the fat? Sounds too good to be true ... or is it?

Fitness Tip

  • Let’s face it, carbs taste good. Any excuse to add them to a meal if fine by most people. Problem is, most people don’t necessarily need to carbo-load. Consider this: an athletic male with 7% body fat as 25-30,000 built in calories from fat stores. That’s enough carbs to crank out 250-300 miles. So do you really need to add carbs the night before your 5 or 10K?

No, what you need to do is to let your body learn to live on less carbs altogether. It can take some time to adjust, but once you do, you may find you can perform better on less.

So unless you have a major endurance event the next day, carbo-loading may do more harm than good.

Testimonials

  • I was feeling defeated and frustrated with my health due to a chronic illness, but Matthew and the group met me where I was at and provided the balance of grace and truth that I needed. I lost 10 lbs during my first challenge, but more importantly I learned to be faithful with my responsibilities (eating well, exercising, etc.) and to trust God with the rest.

  • Vitamix Review: Our Favorite Appliance

Vitamix. Is it everything they say it is? I'm here to tell you, it's more. This multi-purpose, powerhouse of a machine will not only help get you healthier, you'll be looking for excuses to use it. It's without its flaws, but we wouldn't trade it for 100 pounds of organic kale.
