  • More and more, you’re seeing the term “Genetically Modified Organism” (GMO for short) pop up in reference to food. In a nutshell, it means that the chemical makeup of the food has been altered using genetic engineering. There are many controversial implications of GMO, but the one that is health related boils down to the unknown… we really don’t know if it’s safe long-term to eat food that has been genetically modified. Furthermore, we don’t know how safe it is to eat animals that have been fed genetically modified corn or wheat or __________.

    So if you want to play it safe, look for ingredients that are labeled non-GMO. You’ll nearly always see this advertised on the package as a selling point. Otherwise, if it’s not listed as non-GMO, it’s probably safe to assume it isn’t.

    It could be sometime before we know if GMO a real health concern or if it is much ado about nothing. But knowing what you’re putting in your body is ALWAYS important. Ignorance is miss.
