  • There are some basic do’s and don’ts when it comes to stretching. Here are some of the do’s:

    Use dynamic movements as a warm up. These are low-intensity moves that will be similar to the activity you will be performing. They will gradually raise your heartbeat and get blood flowing to your muscles.

    Static stretching (where you’re holding a stretch for 10-40 seconds at a time) is a great cool down movement as your body is returning to normal temperature and your heart rate slows.

    Think “rubber band” in between warm up and cool down. Your muscles are similar… understretch and they get “brittle,” prone to injury. Overstretch and they’ll “snap,” also resulting in injury. Keeping your muscles loose and limber is the best way to stay pain free, not just with your muscles themselves, but your skeletal system. Like eating clean, and getting adequate sleep, there’s no real downside to staying flexible.
